About
Sydney Prayer

Who We Are

Sydney Prayer is a city-wide prayer initiative seeking to mobilise the Body of Christ in Sydney to love the Lord our God and to pray for our city and nation. We partner with churches, ministries, and believers across denominations to gather, equip, and mobilise united prayer.

Sydney Prayer exists to see the Church drawn deeper into devotion to God, walking in love and unity, and living out the Greatest Commandment and the Great Commission by the Holy Spirit. Through prayer gatherings, partnerships, and the Word of God, we seek to strengthen the Church, bear witness to Christ in Sydney through our love for one another, and help prepare the Bride of Christ for the return of Jesus.

SYDNEY PRAYER

OUR VISION

To partner with, gather, equip, and mobilise the Body of Christ in united prayer — to see God’s Kingdom come, and believers living the Greatest Commandment and the Great Commission.

OUR MISSION

Sydney Prayer partners with the Body of Christ to equip, gather, and mobilise believers in united prayer, so that believers may love God, love one another, reach the lost, and make disciples across our cities.

OUR FOUNDATIONS

Sydney Prayer is founded upon the Greatest Commandment — to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love one another — and the Great Commission — to go and make disciples of all nations, teaching them to obey all that Christ has commanded.
(Matthew 22:37–40; Matthew 28:18–20, ESV)

The Birth of Sydney Prayer

In August 2025, while attending the Monday night prayer gathering at my church, Naomi, one of the ladies from the gathering, mentioned an idea that the Lord wanted churches across the denominations in Sydney to host nights of prayer where the Body of Christ would unite in prayer for our city, the lost, and the Bride of Christ.

In September 2025, pastors, ministers, and the Body of Christ responded by hosting 12 nights of prayer across Sydney, spanning denominations and churches.

Sydney Prayer was birthed through Naomi’s faithful prayer and obedience.

I was reminded that two years earlier, Bjorn and Lilian had prayed and commissioned me to mobilise prayer in Sydney.

Throughout October 2025, we intentionally waited on the Lord, seeking to discern whether this was the full expression of His call, or whether He had a further plan and purpose for Sydney Prayer.

I felt that God had a further purpose for Sydney Prayer, and the four purposes of Sydney Prayer were birthed:

  • To partner with the Body of Christ in prayer

  • To gather the Body of Christ in prayer

  • To mobilise the Body of Christ in prayer

  • To equip the Body of Christ in prayer

Join us for the Vision and Prayer Gathering on 21 February, where we will share the Vision and Mission of Sydney Prayer. We will then come together in prayer for the Vision, the Mission, the Body of Christ, and our nation.

Our story

From Bjorn and Lilian Schmid — Prayer Strategies

Bjorn and Lilian were honoured to respond to Michael J Smith’s invitation to attend a gathering which Michael organised for Prayer, Fasting, Worship, and the Living Word at Merroo House of Prayer on Friday, 7 April 2023.

Leading up to this event, the Holy Spirit prompted Bjorn and Lilian to pray and consider passing on the baton and blessing Michael to lead a prayer movement for Sydney. After meeting Michael and discerning his credibility and professionalism, Bjorn and Lilian were inspired by Michael’s humility, kindness, his love for Jesus, and his love for the city of Sydney.

Spiritually speaking, passing the baton to the next generation is essential. God never builds anything on a single generation. The Lord builds through continuity, inheritance, and multiplication. When one generation fails to pass on what God has entrusted to them, the momentum of the Kingdom slows, and entire societies feel the loss. When they do pass it on, the Kingdom accelerates.

God’s purposes are multi-generational. Scripture consistently shows God working through generations:

Abraham → Isaac → Jacob
Moses → Joshua
David → Solomon
Paul → Timothy

Each generation receives a portion of the assignment, not the whole. Passing the baton ensures the story continues. For every generation, there is a fresh vision.

Blessing of Bishop Dan Balais, the National Chairman of Intercessors for the Philippines (IFP),

Sydney Prayer — Vision & Prayer Gathering A Message of Encouragement This is Bishop Dan Balais, the National Chairman of Intercessors for the Philippines (IFP), a 37-year National Prayer Movement in the country with 7,000 churches in the network, the largest and longest running prayer movement in the Philippines. On behalf of the National Board of IFP, and our entire leadership, our prayers and wishes of blessings, grace, and favor upon you all, pastors and intercessors, who commit yourselves to pray and intercede for Sydney and Australia as a whole. May you pursue your destiny through your prayers and intercession. Prayer us our connection to the mercy and grace of God that is always available through a people whose hearts are loyal towards Him (2 Chron 16:9). It is through our humility, prayers, repentance, and seeking His face that His mercy is kindled and heal our land (2 Chron 7:14). The Almighty God, in His infinite love for mankind, always seek for God's people to stand in the gap, and make a wall of prayers, so that He will not, in His holiness, judge the land (Ezek 22:30). Of all biblical symbolism, what gives me hope for the Philippines is the branch of an almond tree (Jer 1:11). When God called Jeremiah and put His word in the young prophet's mouth, He asked: “Jeremiah, what do you see?” Jeremiah's spiritual eyes were opened, and he said: “I see a branch of an almond tree.” The Lord said: “You have seen well for I am ready to perform My word.” The almond tree is the very first tree that blossoms after winter time. While the rest of the trees in Israel are still barren in early spring, the almond tree already blossoms with pure white flowers. It is a symbol of hope; and symbol of resurrection. Intercessors are a special breed of God's people who never lose hope. The next vision was a boiling pot — a vision of judgment, captivity and misery because of the sins, transgressions, and iniquity of the whole nation. May we always see through the smoke of boiling pots and judgments, the hand of the Lord holding the almond branch. May Australia find a people who, like Habakkuk, cling tightly to His promises. As the prophet declared: “Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls— Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer’s feet, And He will make me walk on my high hills.” — Habakkuk 3:17–19 NKJV May God richly bless your gathering! Our love and prayers. ❤🙏 — Bishop Dan A. Balais National Chairman, IFP
